Blog post number 9- Fighting fire with fire- Chuck Logsdon

War is seemingly the epitome of all evil. The overall destruction and loss of life, tragedies such as the Hiroshima bombing or the World trade center attacks, all show the true atrocity of war, but it is in such atrocities comes a need for retaliation. Injustices such as the Holocaust, can only be answered with physical retaliation. In a perfect world war would obviously never be necessary but in times of violent oppression violent retaliation is a perfectly necessary means of justice. I suppose by nature if war is only necessary by means of other war then war in any case isn't necessary but when it comes to the violation and oppression of human rights war is absolutely necessary. I believe the measure of a perfect society is the absolute lack of war as well as the absolute lack of necessity for war but seeing as the world clearly is not there yet there is still a need for violence.
