assignment 14 - THANKSgiving - cole knight

I have a handful of Thanksgiving traditions. The first one is starting my morning by being a real 21st century activist by retweeting some Jacobin article about how the US was built on genocide and the narrative surrounding Thanksgiving is a tool for white supremacy, which is true, and I wish I were doing a bit more to try and combat. I also have a tradition of pronouncing "Thanksgiving" with emphasis on the first syllable, which is apparently more common in the deep south, where my Texan family from whom I got this little quirk obviously reside. This leads directly to another tradition: getting made fun of for it by my Yankee friends while everyone else struggles to even understand what the difference is between how I say it and how everyone else does. I also watch a lot of football on Thanksgiving, including the annual Cowboys game, which this year absolutely ruined my day. They lost, and that was expected, but I, for some reason, got very irrationally angry about this particular failure. Finally, after my dinner and pie and faux activism have all faded, my dad will have his "official start to the Christmas season" by giving each member of my family one present, which is an awesome tradition and just one of the many, many reasons why I'm a huge fan of my pops.
