Assignment #10: Hannah Qazi - spooky scary skeletons
It's 2010. I'm sitting in my living room watching the greatest movie of our time: Shrek while my cousin is slowly morphing into the couch after consuming our entire pantry. While this may seem like a typical Friday, it's forever embedded in my memory. See, my siblings had the brilliant idea of ordering a used Ouija board off of a sketchy website that apparently was uncovered from a burnt down village in Russia, which is typical of them, so my family had gathered together in the basement to see what all the fuss was about. They switched off the lights, lit some candles and got comfortable. My brother went first, placing his fingers onto the compass and the others joined him. He asked the first question - Is anyone here with us right now? Of course, there wasn't an initial response, so most of my family members had accepted their victory in humiliating my siblings and took their money. But then the dial started to glide across the board. It moved to Yes. The combination of sweaty fingers and anxiety could logically explain this, but I refuse to believe it. After interrogating this spirit for about ten minutes, my uncle finally asked the question: are you good or bad? Her answer? I still don't know because the board started to vigorously shake and the lights came back on. The next morning my grandfather couldn't stop complaining about the wind the night before. He said he saw all the trees shaking but one, and that a shadow stood behind it, but we never told him about our encounter. Now, this still isn't what scares me. Three years later my family and I moved into our new home, and my mother promptly burnt the Ouija board after that night. After we'd unpacked and explored each room I found my brother standing in the middle of the hallway, paralyzed with fear. He found the Ouija board, tucked away from sight, behind the standing mirror. We immediately discarded it and thankfully, have yet to rediscover it.
