I learned the most about psychology last year when I took AP psych, which was probably one of the most captivating classes I have ever had. Although the majority of the class was Academy seniors who were far superior in knowledge and experience, I learned so much just from a year of that class. My favorite unit was social psychology--I had to cover my eyes for most of The Stanford Prison Experiment, but it was a captivating unit nonetheless. Even the biological psychology unit, when everyone had to memorize the names of umpteen limbic structures (I'm sure everyone who took this last year will sympathize), was interesting despite the work. Plus, a lot of that knowledge came up in The Teenage Brain!
Discussing all things under the psychology umbrella, I also love taking personality tests. The first one I took (excluding Buzzfeed quizzes) was the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). Initially, I didn't believe in any of those tests, and I still don't think they are entirely definitive of your character, but I was shocked to find how accurate the Myers-Briggs test was, at least for me. I have taken it multiple times over the course of several years, and I got INFP almost every time--which I guess means it's fairly consistent and accurate. Surprisingly, though, I've never taken the Enneagram test, which I've heard is also very well-known. So that's what I'll be doing after I write this blog post.
Another subject--that doesn't fit quite as well into the psychology umbrella but keeping with the general philosophy/thought theme--is ethical dilemmas! My mom studies marketing ethics and advertising, so we love reading these together in our downtime--oftentimes we can spend hours finding prompts on the internet and discussing them!
Overall, I love anything psychology or thought-based, and tying that into the medical field, mental health in general is a really important cause, so I hope to make a difference in that field someday. Or at the very least, I could be a psychology professor! (But I sure hope not!)
