Assignment #9- Ellis Padgett- Good for Something But Hard to See

There is a time for war. To put it as simply as possible, that time occurs when innocent people are being harmed. As a society we have demonstrated that there are evils- both in people and the natural world. And though fighting fire with fire seems stupid in theory, the situation is different when it comes down to guns.
We are a connected world, whether we like it or not. I think we have a duty to stand up for our fellow humans overseas. If not simply driven by the humanitarian issue, the situation could be seen as a threat to our own nation. Power hungry people can no longer be stopped by oceans. No one has an absolute responsibility to go to war; yet oftentimes it is seen as the best solution possible, the only one we can carry out.
I would like to believe that conciliation is a viable solution to war. In some cases, it may be, especially when the people or governments involved are willing to sit down and talk. But when they are not willing to compromise and create a solution without bloodshed-as with terrorism- war does seem to present itself as the only option. A man sitting on a battlefield with a paper in hand won't be enough to give pause to a cold-hearted person with weapons.
I hate war and all it entails- that there is something so vial that it cannot be stopped by anything but force. We are all created equally, and for anyone to think that their life matters more than another's is ridiculous. Those people, in my opinion, need to be stopped. I hope that there is a technological solution that will advance what we think of as war, and make it less violent. Above all, I hope that is not simply wishful thinking.
