Assignment #3 : Hannah Qazi - I am cultured
As a child I was blessed with the opportunity to miss about a month of school every couple of years because my Asian tiger mom did not have faith in my siblings and I to keep each other alive while she was abroad, so of course she was forced to take us with her, back to her mother country of Pakistan. It was an educational yet slight traumatizing experience all at once. I didn't realize my fuchsia corduroy pants from Abercrombie Kids were an indication of an elite status, since it was a 'luxury' brand good from the US. Also, it was interesting to learn my cousins' perspective of America, where everyone could apparently afford to buy you the latest apple product and had a golden retriever. Nevertheless, these spontaneous trips across the world heavily shaped my cultural identity and awareness. I now embrace both the American and Pakistani aspects of myself confidently, appreciating the beauty of both.
