Assignment #21- Nearly a lion's lunch- Benjamin Webster

I’ve faced a plethora of obstacles. One that comes to mind that doesn’t involve swimming, is when I went backpacking for twelve days in New Mexico with a bunch of friends. Not even 24 hours in New Mexico, I had a killer headache. Initially I was told I had altitude sickness. I powered through it for three days, chugging water and taking medication whenever it was safe to do so. On the fourth day hiking, we woke up and quickly ascended this steep mountain and on the way down, my nose exploded with blood coming out of both nostrils. We later surmised that I had sinus pressure and I should have been taking Sudafed. It wasn’t that large of a problem for the trip but it was certainly scary, knowing that at any moment a bear or a mountain lion could pick up the scent. On that same trip we had to climb a huge mountain that had been mined at the top. Not only was the mountain steep to the point of nearly being impossible to climb, close to the top the wind blew hard and there was no safe place to put your feet because it was all loose rock. However my crew prevailed. That whole trip helped me learn how to preserve when you didn’t want to. So from now on when I see a challenge, I’ll reflect on what I’ve overcome such as becoming an option for a hungry animal's dinner.
