Assignment #1-Emma Lauritzen, Honky Tonk Mosh Pit

Hello, my name is Emma Lauritzen!

I am 16 years old and a junior in high school. My goals for this school year revolve around creating a concrete plan for my future. I would also like to obtain a leadership role within the school and begin to study what I am interested in. In terms of personal goals, I would like to become a better lacrosse player and begin looking for an internship outside of school. I personally am still confused about what I want to do with my future and narrowing that down would reduce stress in my life. Over summer vacation I was able to attend the Railbird Music Festival with some friends, those two days were the most meaningful of my summer because I had never experienced such elation before. The joy I experienced over those two days left me in a state of euphoria for an additional week, and the event was especially meaningful because I was able to become closer with some friends. While at the festival, my plus one and I snuck in large yellow bubble wands; this prompted eight professional photographers from the festival to surround us taking photos. I was also able to experience canned water which was odd. By far the most amazing part was the music-on the first day I began at a Mavis Staples concert, continued on to Mandolin Orange, then Brandi Carlile; I eventually ended up in a honkey tonk mosh pit listening to the Old Crow Medicine Show, and finally I ran across the festival to be upfront for the Jack White show. On the second day, at the end of the night, I was three rows away from the stage at a Hozier concert and I cried tears of joy for an hour. My dream of seeing Jack White and Hozier came true and I realized that folk mosh pits are incredibly fun. On another note, if I could have a super power I would have telepathy. Not only does this allow me to be lazy and bring myself oreos with my mind, but often in superhero movies the hero with telepathy manages to realize that they have more power. If I had this superpower I could also fulfill my dream of being Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender, by moving water with my mind.
In terms of what geeks me, I have a fascination with the mind and how things change and evolve over time. If I could choose an idea career, I would sit in a well-lit office all day and study evolution, the brain, and how humans change over time. The idea that we evolve to fit our environment is crazy to me and I want to know everything about it. I also love sunflowers and grew one in my backyard over the summer (it is now ten feet tall), I love the color yellow, I like being involved in politics and coming to young dems meetings, and I love writing and history.
