In the last twelve months books that have stuck out to me have been Trevor Noah’s Born a Crime, Tiffany Haddish’s The Last Black Unicorn, and The Teenage Brain. Born a Crime and The Last Black Unicorn had the perfect balance of funny moments and serious moments. Tiffany Haddish was able to write about growing up in foster care and the struggles she faced while still making the reader laugh. Trevor Noah was able to write about all his life events from making pirated CD’s to his stepfather shooting his mother in a way that always had a fitting shift in mood. Even when talking about very somber issues Trevor Noah was still able to make it a little funny. I started to read Amy Pohler’s book Yes Please, but I did not find it very funny so I didn’t end up finishing it. I think my standards for it were too high after watching Parks and Rec and loving it so much. I just felt that the book was not as entertaining as Parks and Rec was, so I didn’t end up finishing it.
